Kathy Zimmer is a singer/songwriter with one foot in the tradition of classical art song and the other planted firmly in bluesy, lyrically charged folk music. She combines romantic, wistful songwriting with at times sultry, at times innocent vocals, all solidly backed by simple, pared-down guitar. Her debut album is the newly released Under Your Spell, which features Kathy and her band, Kat Zim Boom, exploring Kathy's songs with a heavily percussive slant. Born and raised in rural Nebraska, Kathy grew up singing folk music with her family. With the help of some rudimentary lessons from her Aunts Phyllis and Dorothy, she learned to play guitar at an early age in order to accompany herself when singing in church services and various small town gigs. While she credits her family as her most important musical influence, her earliest motivations additionally came from the works of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn and Simon |
