The backroom of the Sidewalk is also known as The Fort after the music scene run there by local songwriter Lach. Lach's first club, The Fort, was a pioneer Lower East Side after hours bar which inhabited other clubs once he was shut down. It was the birthplace of the musical movement known as Antifol k and bred such talent as Beck, Michelle Shocked,
Paleface and Brenda Kahn as well as newer arrivals Hammel-On-Trial, The Moldy Peaches, Joie Dead Blonde Girlfriend, The Humans and hundreds more. There is never a cover charge but please kick in when the tipjar comes to your table it all goes to the wonderful musicians who perform there. Shows general begin at 7:30pm and there is a two drink minimum. Entertainment ranges from the Antifolk crew to the Comedy, Spoken Word, Jazz, Pop and Rock.
