Roger Manning

What do you think of Roger
 Manning?

He's the poet girl he'd like to
be
He's the beautiful girl who he
fancies he is
happy accident
Roger is like stale gum you
just can't spit out
He's like ripping a band-aid
off a hairy arm

Ever since the first Roger Manning album was released in 1989 by California punk label SST ( Black Flag, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr.) I've toured the U.S. and Europe presenting compelling wordy-solo-rock with pounding rhythms, "aggressive imagery", and often-ridiculous bass levels from a heavily equalized guitar. ( Given a decent p. a. with good subs it gets pretty intense ). Over the last few tours almost all of the few "political" songs ( other than requests ) have been eliminated from the set which is now largely consist of songs and banter reasonably described as humorously pornographic.

Fuck you have a nice day

There's no finished recording of newer the Roger Manning songs just now, though stranger things have been known to materialize. It's very likely that the next release will continue to feature plenty of big beats while trading in some of the heavy metal riffage for a less wordy, more melodic approach on various selections.
Last year I had a song on "Drinking From Puddles"
( Kill Rock Stars ), a compilation of live performances from the radio program of the same name at KBOO radio Portland, OR. (Tracks by Elliot Smith, Cindy Lee Berryhill, Cat Power, Lydia Lunch and many others ) There was also a spokey word track on "What's the Word" ( Deezal Records ), a cool cd of rockers doing spoken word. I toured the U.S. in the spring and then blew off the fall tour for the 1st time in ten years. Stayed in NYC and got into html coding.
I toured the U.S. in May/June 2000, returning to New York for continued adventures in website production. Blew off the fall tour again. Might be out in the spring.
