Like so many other kids before him, Rob Getzschman listened to Bob Dylan, said, "I can do that," travelled to New York and found the abysmal Greenwich Village not to be what it was in the good old days. Not knowing where to go, he found Dan Van Rank and took some lessons on the guitar, then returned to St.

Louis. There, he wrote and recorded his first album and set out back to New York. This time around, he found the East Village and the antifolk scene, and spent the better part of 2001 playing there and around Manhattan. He recorded another album at the original Jersey City Balloon Heaven studio. At that point, the conflict of dayjob, disillusion, and discontent with living the salmon-run lifestyle of New York City drove him north to Boston, where rumors of affordable housing beckoned. Jobless for a stretch, he recorded a series of demos for a fourth album, while a third waited unfinished back in Brooklyn. Oncoming projects are expanding beyond solo arrangements, and beyond the East coast.
