What do you think of Kristin
 Shout?

Kristin makes me want to
Shout
You should give her all
your money
She gives me a bruise
I will give her no more
second chances
I'd rather be in hot water
than listen to Kristin

Kristin Shout
The music of Kristin Shout combines the dark realism of Kurt Wiel, the gritty sensuality of Eartha Kitt, and the stark truthfulness of Ani Difranco.  Her voice has been compared to Patti Smith and PJ Harvey and her songs have been compared to no one. Ten years of lauded performance art, poetry and music have led to her debut CD.    It is dark cabaret anti-folk that attacks with ferociousness, but invites and involves with truth.

Kristin's music career started on the streets of Paris in 1994.  Over the next five years she traveled and played in such diverse European cultures as: Belgium, Holland, Germany, Spain, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and, of course, France. Upon her return to Chicago (and its infamous Wicker Park arts scene), she has continued to build a following through desire, energy, and talent.  She was a member of the ensemble that won the 1991 National Poetry Slam. Award wining
poet, E. Donald Two-Rivers has said, "Her words flow with emotion." In addition, Kristin also received a fellowship from the Illinois Arts Council in the field of performance art, which enabled her to stage her well-received one women show "Screaming to be Free from the Icon Tree."  Said Achy Obejas of the Chicago Reader, "She vibrantly energizes a room".

An excellent example of her work can now be found on her self-titled EP. Recorded at King Size Sound Labs, it was produced by Kristin, Doug Brush and Mike Hagler.  Also contributing to the recording were several well-known Chicago musicians: Dave Max Crawford (Poi Dog Pondering and Sea and Cake), Lenny Dietsch (Verbow), Doug Brush (Las Toallitas and Rose Polanzani), Bob Goins (The Convulsions and The Almighty Rogers) and Melissa Zeimer (The Juleps and Gertrude).  Both brassy and intimate, it comes from a soul that has felt much pain and eyes that can still see beauty.
