RS: How did you learn to sing?
Fire-Dean: I was doin the whole singing in the shower routine once when a house guest ran into the bathroom, swung open the curtain, and just said something like "Holy Shit!". I could tell she was truly dumbfounded that it wasn't one of my roomates, or the radio, or some other phenom besides the dope she'd been dating.
RS: What's the first record you ever bought?
Fire-Dean: Elton John, Madman Across The Water. A great record from a guy who stopped making great records about the same time he started wearing a wig.
RS: Did you pick up an instrument as a kid?
Fire-Dean: I did. One of those Toy Rainbow colored Xylophones. I studied it a played whatever I could. No one noticed.
RS: What's on the radio in Jamaica?
Fire-Dean: Counting Crows (Cause people in Jamaica think the lead singer's wig looks cool.)
RS: What is your favorite song about smoking ganja?
Fire-Dean: Puff The Majic Dragon.
RS: What do you think about pop music- such as No Doubt's "Hey Baby" - that borrows from Dancehall rhythems?
Fire-Dean: Borrows from Dancehall? I agree with what Lemmy (Motorhead) said in his CMJ keynote speech a couple years ago: There is only one question to ask about any song..."Is it good?" Hmmm....No it is not.
RS: What was your worst gig ever?
Fire-Dean: Worst has sorta taken on the life of a contest for me, and as such it is now 'the BEST of the worst' . So far,....The time I got heckled by a wheelchair bound stroke victem. I shushed the crowd when I noticed he was trying to yell something at me but his tounge not being properly wired was having trouble articulating correctly. So when everyone was quieted down he yelled again, even louder and more slowly ..."That shhhat ssslucks!"
RS: What do Bob Marley and Peter Tosh mean to you?
Fire-Dean: Classic rock artists, who (out of principle) need to be ignored for a period of 2 decades, beginning now.... Two dead people who sponsored a religion that hates gays, encourages people to put poop in their hair, and worship an emperor who remained rich while his 'people' remained impoverished.
